Welcome to my portfolio.
My art explores personal obsessions and wider themes such as; the relationship between humans and nature, connections between people, organic architecture, music & dance, folkloric and tribal imagery. Primitivism and Pre-Columbian art inspire some of my recent work, particularly the bold lines found in the traditional textiles of Peru. The work could be described as ancient contemporary – with the aim to mix ancient art aesthetics with present-day iconography.

Having graduated with a BA Hons Degree in Visual Communication, my first portfolio specialised in editorial illustration, mostly created with acrylics on paper. My personal work was influenced by the tribal style found in 80s club culture associated with artists such as Keith Haring & Mark Wigan as well as new wave underground comic artists including Joost Swarte, Ever Meulen, Moebius, Gary Panter and Mark Beyer.
Overtime as my creative career became more focused on graphic design, I subsequently tended to make images digitally, albeit with hand-made textural elements.
From 2000 onwards, alongside my design, I began working as an art educator at various universities across the country. This experience helped to develop my theory and practice through an on-going process of research and learning. In turn teaching inspired me to author and create numerous books (published by Thames and Hudson) that would hopefully go on to inspire students of art.
Drawing in sketchbooks has remained a constant throughout my creative life - as a way of exploring topics and my own visual obsessions. 2020 was a turning point, during COVID I found more time for drawing and image making. Authoring books has taken a pause, while I've invested time developing my own visual language. My artwork is now more analogue returning to painting with acrylics and recently linocuts - one of my favourite mediums.
